Symptoms

  • Colon cancer is known as "the silent killer" – often symptoms do not appear until after the cancer is advanced.
  • Symptoms that do appear are often misdiagnosed. This is why early detection is so important.
  • Common symptoms to watch for (which may or may not indicate a problem) include:
  • Frequent, but not necessarily constant, blood in the stool
  • Bleeding from the rectum
  • Unusual fatigue
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • A change in bowel habits
  • Stools narrower than usual
  • Anemia
  • Diarrhea, constipation, or a combination of both
  • Bloating, fullness, or general stomach discomfort
  • Frequent gas pains
  • Vomiting
